I believe Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks are some of the best liquid lipsticks around. They have amazing colour pay-off and has a silky formula that doesn’t dry out lips like traditional matte lipsticks.
So when Bourjois launched their Soufflé de Velvet collection, I was pretty hyped to try them. The packaging and the applicator is the same as the original though Soufflé de Velvet comes in a frosted tube.
These are supposed to be a lighter and summer appropriate version of the Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks. And after trying them out, I am happy to say they are exactly that!
I’ve tried 3 shades out of the 8 that are available in the Middle Eastern market.
Coquelic’oh! (02) – bright orange based red
Ravie en rose (04) – light baby pink
Cherry leaders (06) – Cherry red
The texture of the Soufflé de Velvet lipsticks are quite similar to the Rouge Edition Velvets but a touch more lighter. The texture is so lightweight, you might even forget that you are wearing lipstick. The shades apply very sheer, almost like watercolours. They are glossy when first applied but dries down to a beautiful matte finish (it might take a few minutes).
One more difference is that the Soufflé de Velvet lipsticks have a light floral fruity scent (according Bourjois it’s a blend of Blueberry and Violet). If you have a sensitive nose, don’t worry! The scent doesn’t last long. I prefer the scent of these to the original Rouge Edition Velvets, which have a strong chemical scent.
Some shades in the range are more pigmented than others. For example shade no 2 has more pigmentation than the other two. This range is great if you are just getting in to the matte lip craze! Plus these are a great way to add colour to your lips when you are wear heavy eye makeup.
These last quite well and the colour did not migrate outside my lips. But if you are wearing a lighter shade (like no 4), you might need to reapply after a few hours, just to add more intensity.
The Soufflé de Velvet lipsticks does not have the strong chemical scent that Rouge Edition Velvets have. I love these Soufflé de Velvet lipsticks as much as the originals and plan to add a few more to my collection. Next on my list is no 3 (VIPeach), no 7 (Plum Plum Pidou) and no 8 (Carameli Melo).
