Essence lotions or skin softening lotions are a staple in Asian skincare. You might be forgiven if you thought they are just toners with fancy names but they are something entirely different. While facial toners balance the skin’s PH and mops up excess oil, facial essences does the opposite. Designed to be applied after cleansing and toning, they are alcohol free and contain highly concentrated ingredients that infuse the skin with nutrients and moisture. And unlike toners, these should be massaged in to the skin using your fingers. They prepare the skin for your next treatment so you can follow this up with your regular serum /moisturiser.
Shiseido Luminizing Infuser is a facial essence designed to be used alongside their White Lucent range. The White Lucent range promises to brighten skin and remove dark spots and hyper-pigmentation. According to Shiseido, ingredients including Tranexamic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid and Sakura extract (Japanese Cherry Blossom) aided by their “deep Infuser technology” penetrate deep in to the skin and helps fade and brighten dark spots. The Hyaluronic Acid boosts skin’s moisture content and also strengthens the skin’s barrier. It’s also great at plumping up the skin and making it more youthful.
With continued use of the White Lucent range, Shiseido promises that skin will be more resilient to dark spots and hyper-pigmentation. Shiseido also states that this range is gentle enough to be used after brightening cosmetic procedures such as laser pigmentation removal.
This was my first time using a facial essence and I love it. To apply, I take a little on my palm and pat it on gently and massage it in. The lightweight almost watery liquid sinks in to the skin very quickly and leaves my face glowing. Once it’s absorbed, follow it up with your regular serum / lotion or cream. Since my skin is oily, I sometimes prefer just wearing this essence on it’s own. It’s light, non greasy and leaves behind a veil of moisture.
Though it does leave my face brighter, on it’s own this has not made much of a difference to my acne scars (nor did I expected it to). L. However, bear in mind that this is to be used as part of a brightening regime that includes a serum, a day cream and a night cream.
The Luminizing Infuser is a great product to try if you are looking to add a facial essence to your skincare routine. Specially like me if you have skin weakened by harsh acne treatments.
Have you used facial essences like this? What was your experience like?
Thank you so much for reading and have a lovely Saturday!
