Worth the hype ? – Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette review & swatches

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette review

Though I love makeup, my skills leave a lot to be desired. No matter how closely I try to follow those gorgeous beauty guru’s on You Tube, I can never achieve that flawless perfection !

Smokey eye makeup is one such technique that seems so elusive to me. On top of that I have really small, hooded eyes that makes applying eye makeup quite a task (for me).  Due to this reason I prefer eye shadow crayons over powder shadows.  And resisted the temptation to indulge in a high-end palette such as the Too Faced Chocolate Bar or Urban Decay’s Naked series.

However, the lovely Devika Vasant who works for alshop (an online retailer that stocks a great variety of makeup brands at great prices) sent to me the Too Faced Chocolate Bar to review and I fell in love with it.

According to Too Faced, the Chocolate Bar palette is infused with anti-oxidant rich cocoa powder (the Co-Founder of the brand Jerrod Blandino got the idea while getting a Chocolate facial at a Hawaiian spa !).  The palette comes in a dark brown hued tin that resembles a large chocolate bar.  And just like it’s name all 16 eye shadows have a sweet yet intoxicating cocoa scent.

A closer look at the eye shadow collection – Champagne Truffle was shattered when I got it but I fixed it up with some rubbing alcohol 🙂

A closer look without the shade card

The palette contains a gorgeous collection of matte, shimmer and glittery eye shadows ranging from beautiful neutral browns to smokey dark cherry. All the shades blend like a dream and easy to use, even to a klutz like me.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette swatches & review
from L-R Hazelnut (a matte nude ), Creme Brulee (a shimmering dull gold), Haute Chocolate (a shimmery dark brown), Cherry Cordial (a matte dark brown red), Champagne Truffle (a shimmering oyster pink )

from L-R Salted Caramel (matte nude brown), Marzipan (shimmery light nude), Semi-Sweet (matte dark brown), Strawberry Bon Bon (matte light pink), Candid Violet (shimmery purple with lilac glitter), Amaretto (a rich dark brown)

from L-R Glided Ganache (shimmering dark black/brown with a hold hue), White Chocolate (a matte bone ), Milk Chocolate ( matte light brown), Black Forest Truffle ( brown/red with gold glitter), Triple Fudge (rich matte dark brown)

As you would have noticed, all shadows are named after sweets ! The colour pay-off in these shadows is quite amazing.  All the above swatches were done without a primer underneath (I hope the photos does it some justice, but it’s hard to capture there true glory with a phone camera !) . The matte shades give the best pay-off while the ones with glitter are the lightest. The shadows do intensify when used with a primer (I use the Urban Decay Primer Potion). The lasting power is pretty good, even when used without a primer (and I have quite oily lids).

I love using the White Chocolate shade on my brow bones as a highlighter (it blends in to my skin tone like magic !) and using one or two shades one my whole lid area (Salted Caramel, Milk Chocolate, Champagne Truffle  and Creme Brulee are my favorites at the moment.

In my opinion this palette is definitely worth the hype and I think it acted as a gateway drug because now I am craving after the Too Faced Semi Sweet Bar and the Urban Decay Naked 2 🙂

I would love to know what your favorite shadow palettes are so please do let me know.

Thank you so much for reading and have a great week ahead !

  1. Love the names of these shades! My favourites are Salted Caramel and Semi-Sweet! The packaging of this is SO cute too – I’d image the sturdy case has a practical function too, great for travelling. 🙂 Thanks for the swatches!
