If you are a regular reader you know I adore drugstore makeup brands. I love all things Bourjois and though it is a drugstore brand, their quality and feel is more like a high end product. And no wonder because Bourjois used to be owned by the house of Chanel!
Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua Laque is the glossier version of their much hyped Rouge Edition Velvet, released just in time for summer. According to Bourjois these have ‘ a mirror like shine, intense colour, 10 hour hydration with a water light sensation on lips’. There are 8 shades available, ranging from nudes to bright reds.
Being a huge lip gloss fan, I was quite intrigued by these. So when they were finally launched in Dubai I bought bought three. And then I got two more from the goodie bag I got from the blogger party I attended a few weeks back (one was a shade I already bought but it’s a shade I love).
True to their claim, the glosses feel quite lovely on the lips (lightweight and non sticky). When I put it on, there’s a cooling sensation like the feel of chilled water. And my lips looked very shiny and plump. The colour lasts for about 3-4 hours and fades away leaving behind a slight tint (but the shine fades very quickly). But be warned, it will vanish quickly if you eat or drink anything!
These glosses did leave my lips quite hydrated (though I am not sure about the 10 hour claim!) and I did not need a lip balm once the gloss wore away (which is great given the dry heat in Dubai). There’s a faint fruity scent but it fades very quickly. And though the shade range may look a lot similar in the tubes, there are subtle differences between colours. Non of the shades have any shimmer and glitter.
The packaging is identical to the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet but with a pretty, mirror finish cap. The cap is colour reflects the lip gloss shade.
I have quite dry lips but with these I can skip using lip balm because they are so moisturising. And the lasting power is not an issue because this is a lip gloss after all. If you do want long wearing colour and shine, I would suggest to use a lip stain/crayon first and to layer the gloss on top.
My favorite shades are no1 – Appechissant (a peachy pink) and no3 – Braun croyable (pretty plum brown). I am thinking of getting no6 – Feeling reddy (a gorgeous warm orange) and no8 – Babe idol (a barbie pink) next.
