Whether you have long or short hair, tangled hair is a nightmare ! The usual way to get rid of a tangle is to use a wide toothed comb and try to ease it out. I have tried countless combs & brushes but none seem to work well with my hair.
I have very dry, thick, curly almost hip length hair that tangles very easily (refer the picture at the end of the Post). I don’t brush my hair everyday because I don’t want to break-up my curls. And because of this I sometimes end up getting very tangled up curls, which can take hours to untangle (longest time I’ve spent was a two days !). To deal with my tangled hair I spray it with a leave in conditioner and then use a wide tooth comb to ease off the tangles. But sometimes I had to cut off chunks of hair because it was tangled so badly.
I’ve seen countless articles online about the merits of the Tangle Teezer and has spurned various counterfeits. When I saw it at Boots in the Dubai Mall I was very curious to try it . At 65AED, it was a small investment and I was game for anything that can help with my hair. There were two versions available, a compact brush for travel and a regular bigger version. Both cost the same and I bought the regular brush.
The plastic brush is shaped to fit the palm of your hand and has small flexible teeth. According to the Tangle Teezer website it’s designed for all hair types and glides through hair without tugging or pulling.
I tried it for the first time on my very tangled hair and it worked wonders ! It seem to easily slide through my hair and untangle it very quickly. It took about 1/2 hour to brush through and I was left with smooth and tangle free hair . I have very thick hair and the short bristles could only reach the top layer of my hair so I had to comb layer by layer. But given how effective the brush is I wouldn’t call it a negative. I use it on my wet hair too, after applying conditioner just to ease out any remaining tangles. And it gently glides through wet hair without tugging. Now the brush has become an indispensable item and I can’t imagine brushing my hair without it.
In conclusion, the Tangle Tezzer does live up to the hype. If you are plagued with tangles like me, this might be the answer. And the brush would be great to use on kids too. It’s very gentle on the scalp. Just remember to use the brush gently without tugging or pulling and let it work it’s magic!
The Tangle Teezer is available in the U.A.E. at larger Boots stores or online for around 11Pounds. .There are some rather fabulous looking brush types (like a long handled blow dry brush) and some lovely colours available but I’ve only seen the original and the compact version available in Dubai.
Have you used the Tangle Teezer? What was your experience like?
